Our Journey

This page is dedicated to Ginger and to some of the wonderful adventures we shared.

Ginger was my best friend.

She lived with ALS for six years, but we didn’t let ALS stop us from living our lives. Even when Ginger needed a wheelchair, we continued to travel and experience the world together.

Over our 25 years together, we travelled to 71 countries and visited 1,298 cities.

How We Met — 1999

We met online in 1999.

I was living in Canada and planning a trip to Orlando, Florida, for a convention. My daughter, son-in-law, son and grandchildren were also coming.

I asked Ginger if she would like to meet me for dinner.

Ginger later said she figured I must be safe because I was travelling with my family, so she agreed.

Neither one of us knew then where that first meeting would lead.

It became the beginning of a 25-year journey together.

April 1999 — San Antonio

Our official dating story really began in San Antonio.

I was attending a convention there and decided to fly Ginger over to spend a few days with me. My birthday was April 7, which made the trip even more special.

“Nobody But Me”
The Human Beinz — the 45-rpm record Ginger found for my birthday. It cost her about $2.

That became one of our favorite jokes:

“Twenty-four years of fun for a two-dollar investment!”

We had a wonderful time together in San Antonio. The River Walk was beautiful, romantic and a lot of fun.

We were having such a good time that when it was time to leave, we forgot about daylight saving time.

We arrived at the airport an hour late.

Ginger managed to get onto her flight.

I missed mine!

That’s what you get for having too much fun.

Our Life Together

We came from a generation that remembered a very different world.

Kids played baseball, hockey and football. We went to sock hops, soda shops and local dances.

If you were lucky, your family had a black-and-white television, a party-line telephone and one family car.

Teenagers met at the soda shop, went skating or headed to the local dance hall.

Weekends often meant visiting grandparents and spending time together as a family.

Years later, Ginger and I built a large blended family of children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Our family was spread across Canada and the United States, so travelling became part of our lives.

Eventually we made our home in Ridgeway, Ontario.

We Loved the Music

Music was always part of our lives.

We loved the music of the 1950s and 1960s and travelled to concerts, oldies shows, local fairs and special music events.

Cruising also became a huge part of our life together.

Those cruises helped take us around the world and gave us memories that will last forever.
